Four principal classes of hormones can be
differentiated: (1) amino acid derivatives such
as epinephrine and epinephrine derivatives; (2)
polypeptides such as glucagon; (3) steroids
such as cortisol and its derivatives; and (4) fatty
acid derivatives such as the prostaglandins.
